Abby Ross

Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychotherapist

I am a qualified Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, specialising in working with adolescents and young adults (aged 11-25). I was inspired to train as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist after my own experience of therapy as a teenager and young adult. I know firsthand that having support through this challenging time can be life changing. My aim is to equip teenagers and young adults with the skills and self-belief to help them thrive both now and in the future.

How I work
As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of approaches, combining talking therapy with creative techniques and mindfulness. I find that creativity can help us unlock thoughts and feelings that are difficult to put into words. Taking a moment to breathe and get back in touch with our body in moments of distress can help us learn to regulate our emotions.
My approach is tailored to the needs of each individual. I offer culturally sensitive, LGBTQ+ affirming therapy that holds a strong awareness of intersectionality as its core.

I have experience working with a range of issues such as:

  • Anxiety

  • ADHD

  • Low self-esteem

  • Panic attacks

  • Depression or low mood

  • Acute or developmental trauma

  • Stress and academic pressure

  • Emotionally based school avoidance

  • Friendship, family, or relationship difficulties

  • Difficulties with eating, sleeping, or self-care

  • Identity exploration (e.g. gender, sexuality, culture)

  • Major life transitions

  • Grief and bereavement

Who I work with

  • Children (4-10)

  • Adolescents (11-18)

  • Young adults (19-25)

  • Parents and carers

  • Trainee child and adolescent counsellors and psychotherapists

When working with younger children and adolescents (up to age 16), I collaborate with parents and carers. While individual sessions are confidential, I meet regularly with parents to think together about how to support their child’s wellbeing at home.

I also offer reflective parenting sessions -  a dedicated space for parents to pause, reflect, and respond to their children with greater curiosity and compassion. This is often short term work (6-12 sessions) and can help shift patterns of conflict, whilst strengthening the parent-child bond.
