Dr Angie Doran

Counsellor and Psychotherapist

What I offer
I work individually with adults and young people over the age of sixteen.

I offer space and time for you to explore your feelings and experiences, to help you make sense of aspects of your life that trouble you, to build on your strengths, and to help you move towards change when appropriate.

You may be finding personal or work-based relationships difficult, experiencing depression, low mood, anxiety or stress, coping with change in your life, finding it hard to process trauma, dealing with family issues, feeling stuck or isolated, suffering from grief, trying to come to terms with loss or perhaps finding it hard to really feel at ease in the world. Research shows that talking freely with another person, within a safe, collaborative, therapeutic setting, can help us to understand ourselves in new ways and is an effective way for many of us to address, process and resolve the areas of our lives that cause concern. I have experience of working with clients on a wide range of issues in time-limited and longer-term therapy.

Therapy is a process of self-examination and self-discovery, helping you to understand how you can best manage the inevitable emotional stresses of life. It can feel a little daunting to step outside of your familiar context, so I provide a non-judgemental, confidential and supportive environment in which you can take a close look at all aspects of yourself. It is now generally recognised that everyone can benefit from having space and time for reflection. Life can be complex - we all have challenges to deal with at some point or another. Together we can build a working relationship based on trust and respect, in which new perspectives may be explored.

My qualifications and experience
I’ve been working as a counsellor and psychotherapist since 2009 after completing an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy at Birkbeck College, University of London. In 2010 I began studying for a PhD with the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies, University of Essex, completing my doctorate in 2014. I was awarded accredited membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy in March 2020.

I have extensive experience of long and short-term work with young people and adults within the third sector, in schools and in colleges.

I am fully insured, have Enhanced DBS registration and my work is supervised. I attend workshops and seminars regularly as part of my continuing professional development.

How to get started
Please feel free to email me on adoranpsychotherapy@gmail.com to find out more. We can then arrange an initial consultation session. In this meeting we can explore what you has brought you to therapy and what you hope to get from the work we do together. If we agree to continue meeting after this first consultation, sessions will be at the same time and day each week.
